FAQs

How many sessions are necessary for effective vascular lesion treatment?

Typically 3 to 5 treatments are needed for maximum results, though small vascular lesions may clear in just a single session. For specific vascular treatments such as Rosacea an ongoing treatment plan may be need to be created with the specific client in mind to manage and make sure expectations are met. We would suggest for safety and effective results that repeat treatments should be spaced every 4 to 6 weeks.

Amongst customers already enjoying the benefits of this technology Dr Phillip Hampton PhD FRCP from Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says: “This Lumina is delivering excellent results for our rosacea patients with widespread facial telangiectasia”.

Are there any side effects with laser and IPL vascular lesion treatments and how does the treatment feel?

After treatment the area may feel warm for a few hours. Rarely some delicate skin areas such as the cheeks or decollete can be slightly red and swollen for up to 48 hours. Though very rare, there is a chance a small blister may form and there could temporary lightening and darkening of the skin.

Vascular treatments can be mildly uncomfortable but there is no need for anaesthesia and the procedure is very quick. Sensations vary but most describe is as a very quick hot pin prick.

How does vascular lesion treatment work?

Both intense pulsed light and laser systems emit wavelength of light which are readily absorbed by blood vessels. These are then heated to a point at which they are destroyed. Following treatment, the vessels quickly clear as they are absorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the original lesion.

Lasers work by selectively targeting certain chromophores; a chromophore being simply something that absorbs light. There are three 3 main chromophores in the skin; melanin, haemoglobin and water. This means that vascular lesions such as Campbell de Morgan spots, Port Wine Stains and visible thread veins can be targeted by lasers or light systems that target haemoglobin. If the wavelength and pulse duration of light is chosen correctly, then these lesions can be removed or faded effectively, whilst ensuring that the surrounding tissue is unaffected.

Which types of vascular lesions and veins can be treated and how?

most superficial red skin lesions including facial thread veins, rosacea, spider naevi, port wine stains are treated with Intense Pulse Light.

At Lynton we would suggest treating deeper vessels with our Nd:YAG (1064nm) such as leg veins up to 3mm in diameter.

Amazing results can be created in just a few steps. Simply bring the light applicator to the skin, activate the handpiece and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. During treatment, protective eyewear will be provided.

How long does a 3JUVE treatment take?

A typical 3JUVE treatment takes approximately 1 hour, improvement is evident after the first session, but for optimal results, 3 to 5 treatment sessions are often advised. Treatment is carried out every 2 to 6 weeks depending upon the level of rejuvenation required.

What makes the LUMINA® stand out above other multifunctional IPL & Laser platforms?

The LUMINA® has a number of unique features, including its patented power supply which can support an Active Q-Switched tattoo removal articulated arm rather than having this in a handpiece form. This is clinically proven to clear pigment much faster by breaking the ink into smaller particles through higher peak power capability. The Addition of the 650 Advanced Hair Removal handpiece will combine the LUMINA’s high power output with optimal efficiency for greater hair removal results on finer lighter hairs. The LUMINA® is manufactured in the UK which means parts and engineers are readily available.

What should I expect before a 3JUVE treatment?

All 3JUVE® treatments start with an advanced consultation to determine your specific goals. The treatment can then be tailored to your individual skin depending on your main concerns. Whether you are concerned with discolouration, loss of firmness or lines and wrinkles the 3JUVE® procedure can be customised to ensure the best possible results for your skin.
