Who Is This Course For?

The first true ‘access to aesthetics’ course that has been run by Lynton and VTCT, the Level 3 Certificate in Access to Aesthetic Therapies will enable anyone who does not have a level 3 beauty qualification to proceed onto other advanced qualifications, such as our Level 4 Certifications in Laser & Light Therapies and Skin Needling.

As well as being a direct route into aesthetics for new practitioners, the Level 3 Certificate in Access to Aesthetic Therapies is also for those who are new to the industry and want to learn the basics of the skin and body, consultation, electrical science, health and safety, and more. It can also be attended by qualified medical professionals who are new to aesthetics.

Course Structure

Part 1: Online Learning (80%) – approximately 80-100 hours

Part 2: Portfolio of Skin Analysis and Facials (20%) – 2 Days at the Lynton Training Academy

It is recommended that you complete the units on Skin Analysis/Typing and Skin Preparation for Treatments and Consultation and Record Keeping before your practical dates at the Lynton Academy.

** Dates displayed are for the practical portion of the course only, and you need to be registered on the course at least 4 weeks prior to the start if the practical course dates to allow enough time to complete the recommended units.**

Course Agenda 

As part of this qualification, there will be a combination of online and practical learning, in addition to a portfolio of six facial treatments . On successful completion, you will be rewarded with an OFQUAL regulated Level 3 VTCT award in Access to Aesthetic Therapies.

Whether you want to progress onto higher qualifications, or simply receive a thorough grounding in the basic of aesthetics, Lynton’s mixture of online, classroom, and practical learning will be invaluable in helping you to deliver the best possible offering to your clients.

 

The course is made up of the following units:

Unit One: Anatomy and Physiology – Online Learning

The course covers the following systems and also investigates aspects of dermatology, microbiology and trichology;

  • Skin – structure, function, and common problems (such as vitiligo, melasma, milia, scars)
  • Nails – structure, function
  • Hair – structure, function and reasons for unwanted growth (including medical conditions)
  • Cardiovascular system; function and structure (including the heart, blood vessels and blood composition)
  • Lymphatic system – function and structure (including lymph nodes and position of nodes)
  • Endocrine system – function and structure (thinking about how it might affect results of certain treatments)
  • Skeletal system – function and structure (including a consideration of how bone structure affects the ageing process in the face)
  • Digestive system – function and structure
  • Nervous system – function and structure
  • Respiratory system – function and structure

 

Unit Two: Skin Analysis/Typing and Skin Preparation for Treatments – Online Learning and The Lynton Training Academy

The aim of this unit is to enable you to provide facial treatments to clients, working on the required areas of the face, neck and décolleté. You will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare for and provide professional treatments including an understanding of treatment indications, benefits and effects and possible contra-indications.

This will include skin analysis, considering a client’s skin type, secondary conditions, lesions they may have, and how best to treat their skin. A basic facial will be performed where you will be taught how to cleanse, exfoliate, steam, extract blackheads, and moisturise.

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know the salon requirements for facial treatments
  • Understand the effects and indications for facial treatments
  • Be able to prepare for facial treatments (this will take place in The Lynton Training Academy)
  • Be able to provide facial treatments (this will take place in The Lynton Training Academy, and you will complete 6 facials on a range of models)

 

Unit Three: Health and Safety – Online Learning

The aim of this unit is to enable you to understand the principles of health and safety at work within a salon, clinic or spa. It introduces the key legislation and legal and regulatory factors that govern health and safety requirements and emergency procedures, and their importance in the aesthetics workplace. You will develop knowledge of how to recognise hazards and their associated risks, the limits of authority when dealing with the hazards found, and how to follow, monitor and maintain safe and hygienic working practices. You will also need to know how to be able to locate firefighting equipment, first aid resources and have an awareness of fire, emergency and evacuation procedures and the role of the health and safety supervisor.

On completion of this unit, you will:

  • Know the principles of health and safety
  • Understand how to maintain health, safety, hygiene and security practices
  • Understand how to follow emergency procedures
  • Understand the role of a health and safety supervisor

 

Unit Four: Consultation and record keeping – Online Learning

The aim of this unit is to understand the principles of client care when providing professional consultations prior to and following treatments. You will develop the knowledge and skills required to prepare for and carry out consultations, demonstrating a high standard of client care. You will also develop your communication skills and learn how to identify and communicate realistic and appropriate treatment objectives.

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know the salon requirements relating to client care and consultations
  • Know the principles of client care
  • Know the principles of consultation
  • Be able to conduct a client consultation (this will take place in The Lynton Training Academy as part of your portfolio)

 

Unit Five: Electrical Science  – Online Learning

This unit will provide all of the necessary underpinning knowledge of electrical science, enabling you to understand the natural and physical science behind electrical beauty therapy treatments.

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the structure of matter
  • Understand electricity and the effects of an electric current
  • Understand natural and artificial electromagnetic radiation

Course Leader

Kirsty Turnbull

After qualifying as a Beauty Therapist in 2002, Kirsty very quickly discovered a passion for skin and lasers. She has been using lasers and IPL systems since 2003, and joined Lynton as a Clinical Trainer in 2008.

In 2010 she became the manager of the Lynton Clinic, but continued to run a variety of training courses. She has completed her VTCT Level 4 Laser and Light Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation qualification as well as the L5 in Laser Tattoo Removal. She is also a qualified assessor.

In 2018 she became the Education Lead at Lynton lasers, and is now responsible for the organisation and delivery of the Lynton VTCT qualifications. She still administers treatments at the Lynton Clinic, keeping her skills and knowledge completely up to date.

Expansion of Premises to Facilitate Entry into Export Markets

To facilitate its entry into new export markets, Lynton Lasers Ltd required increased manufacturing space, as well as new demonstration and training facilities. To this end, LEADER Funding was applied for, and won, to support the refurbishment of an adjacent business unit (Unit 9d) as well as the re-arrangement and refurbishment of the existing business unit (Unit 6) on Holmes Chapel Business Park.
