About This Course

Pigmentation concerns are common, but they don’t behave in a uniform way.
Effective treatment depends on understanding what you’re looking at and making informed choices about how – or whether – to treat it.

This Beyond Basics Clinical Focus module is designed for practitioners who want to strengthen their understanding of pigmentation and improve the quality of their clinical decision-making. The emphasis is on recognising different pigment presentations and thinking more clearly about treatment suitability, safety and outcomes.

Delivered on-demand, the course allows you to learn at your own pace, supported by over 30 years of Lynton’s clinical experience.

Pigment work requires thoughtful decision-making – not only on technology, wavelength and fluence, but on understanding why certain pigmentation reacts the way it does.

In this course, you’ll explore:

  • How different pigment types form and behave
  • The distinction between epidermal and dermal pigmentation
  • How depth, density and distribution shape your treatment choices
  • The science of melanin absorption across IPL and laser wavelengths
  • Clinical risks, including PIH and inflammation
  • How to structure safe treatment intervals
  • Pre-treatment and post-care considerations
  • When pigment is suitable for treatment – and what the red flags look like
  • How to communicate timelines, expected changes and recurrenceThis module strengthens your clinical reasoning so you can plan pigment treatments with confidence and clarity.

You’ll explore the clinical reasoning behind choosing:

  • IPL: ideal for sun damage, age spots and superficial pigmentation
  • Q-Switched 1064/532nm: suitable for deeper pigment, resistant pigment and benign pigmented lesions within scope
  • Nd:YAG 1064nm: for deeper melanin targets and mixed pigment presentations

Each technology is considered through a clinical lens – how it interacts with pigment, what influences treatment success and how to plan protocols with confidence.

This course is ideal for practitioners who treat pigmentation concerns and want to strengthen their clinical understanding, sharpen their clinical decision-making and deliver more consistent outcomes that clients will appreciate.

If you’re ready to approach pigmentation with stronger clinical insight and a more advanced level of treatment planning, this module is the next step.
